Leaving the city behind: The route to Rosendal
This is not a traditional fjord cruise. Instead, it’s an active and varied journey through coastal landscapes, mountain scenery, and a charming Norwegian village.
Your day begins with a comfortable boat trip from Bergen along the western Norwegian coast. Watch as the coastal landscapes shift to the towering mountains that surround Rosendal, situated where the coast meets the Hardangerfjord. The boat journey is as relaxing as it is scenic. Grab a coffee from the onboard snack bar and enjoy the view from the spacious sun decks or the comfortable indoor seating. It’s the perfect start to a memorable day!
Guided hike: Village history & Hattebergsdalen valley
Upon arrival in Rosendal, you’ll meet our local guide who will accompany you throughout the walk. The first part of the route leads through the idyllic village into beautifully green Hattebergsdalen valley, while the guide shares stories about everyday life in Rosendal and the area’s unique aristocratic history.
Up close to Hattebergfossen waterfall
As we follow the well-maintained gravel path, the sound of the rushing water grows louder. The path winds through open pastures, where you are likely to meet local sheep grazing along the way.
Hattebergfossen waterfall is an impressive sight as it cascades down the mountainside. In total it’s around 70–80 metres high and falls in several cascades rather than a single drop. One of the highlights of the hike is how close the path brings us to the waterfall, allowing you to feel the power of the rushing water.
The final stretch is slightly steeper and will get your heart rate up, but the reward is well worth the effort: the refreshing mist from the falls and a panoramic view of the fjord and the green valley below.
Lunch the Norwegian way
To complete the experience, we find the perfect spot to eat a locally prepared lunch from Elins Matgleder. Enjoy a simple, high-quality meal with local flavors while overlooking the surrounding, stunning nature. It’s the authentic Norwegian way to recharge our batteries before we begin our descent back to Rosendal.
Free time in Rosendal
After walking back with your guide, you’ll have some time to explore this small and idyllic village on your own.
A relaxing return to Bergen
In the afternoon, the boat departs Rosendal for the return journey to Bergen. Find a comfortable seat indoors or step out on deck to enjoy the fresh sea air as the coastal scenery passes by – a peaceful end to a day out in Norwegian nature.
