From Bryggen to the West Coast
Departing from the harbour with views of Bryggen, you’ll soon leave the city behind and head into the coastal landscape west of Bergen. As you travel between the islands, your local guide shares stories from the places you pass. Hear how fishermen, sailors and their families built their lives around the sea, and why these waters became the lifeline of local communities.
One of the highlights is Skogsvåg on Sotra, where sheltered bays and narrow channels created ideal conditions for a distinctive local form of whaling. Learn how the locals turned this landscape into natural traps for whales, how the hunt was organised and why it became an important part of life along the coast.
Between the stories, you’ll experience the thrill of travelling by RIB. Feel the wind in your face as you speed across open stretches of water before slowing down to navigate narrow passages between the islands. Together, the stories, the scenery and the excitement of travelling by RIB offer a side of Bergen that few visitors get to experience.
Why Choose This Tour?
Most visitors to Bergen head for the famous fjords. This tour takes you in a different direction, revealing another side of the region through its islands, coastal history and maritime traditions. Combined with the speed and manoeuvrability of a RIB, it offers the perfect blend of local history, spectacular scenery and adventure.
